Art Write Now: Creative Writing Workshops

HOTA Gallery Public Program

Facilitated by award-winning writer Christine Betts, this series of creative writing workshops involves spending time in the Gallery and responding to exhibitions and works of art through a range of guided writing exercises. Take part in thought-provoking discussion in a safe space to fuel your creative writing dreams and get your words onto the page!

Recommended for ages 16+

Sat 27 June – Beneath the Surface

As part of this workshop, we will visit the exhibition Beneath the Surface, before undertaking a series of responsive guided writing exercises.

We will draw on themes of reflection and shadow, moonlight shimmering on water, and stark sunlight on bleached bones. Choose your adventure: dive into poetry using Magic Word prompts, or craft the setting for a short story — underwater, in a desert, or an urban wasteland. There's plenty of space and time to explore, experiment, and most importantly, to write.
